After the end of December and New Year festivities, the hype and celebration atmosphere falls drastically with nothing catchy nationally save the common political shenanigans. However, on a usual sunny Tuesday of 24^th January, the national tranquility is stirred all over sudden. Curtains fall for an academic giant, celebrated urologist, distinguished technocrat, leader and a family man, Professor George Magoha. The internet and TV channels are awash with images and breaking news kickers announcing the untimely death of the towering Academic giant.

However, what brought the great professor close to the hearts of Kenyan population are his reforms during his tenure as the education cabinet secretary. Both his larger-than-life no-nonsense personality and giant physique made him felt from the corridors at the helm of education ministry down to primary school classrooms where he easily blended and interacted with pupils. He is hailed for his efforts that led to successful of destabilization of cartels responsible for notorious cheating during national exams. This happened during his tenure as the chairman for Kenya National Examination Council and cabinet secretary for education.

Most importantly the great professor is the brainchild behind Kenya’s new education system dubbed Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). Through CBC he envisioned an education system that would target the needs in the job market as opposed to the 8-4-4 system that was literally imposing learners to a growth metamorphosis into perennial joblessness.
